ABOUT YUMEKOUBOU
YUMEKOUBOU opened in 2002 as a store selling Japanese antiques. We used to work at our grandfather and uncle's antique store in Shiga Prefecture, where we learned the history and knowledge of Japanese antiques and gained a wealth of experience. YUMEKOUBOU KYOTO store is located in a quiet area of Gion, Kyoto, where is lined with antique shops. This traditional house, which has a history of over 150 years, was previously used as an inn and was relocated here. Although some of the interior has been renovated, you can feel the atmosphere of old Japanese houses, which are rare these days, everywhere. Many parts remain in their original state, such as the large pillars, beams and mud walls, conveying a relaxed atmosphere with an unchanged traditional look.
FIND WHAT YOU LOVE
As the times have changed, the number of overseas customers has increased, and the values and trends toward Japanese antiques have also changed. We are always thinking about what is important and what we can communicate. A few years ago, we also started handling contemporary art works. Of course, the traditional antiques are wonderful, but there are also many excellent works of art created by contemporary artists. Furthermore, our encounter with highly refined and time-honoured vintage furniture was a new and fascinating discovery for us. YUMEKOUBOU is not limited to the category of antiques, but aims to collect, combine, and promote things that we love and find beautiful. That's why at YUMEKOUBOU KYOTO, a wide variety of items are displayed in the same space. By displaying works from different genres that put together well, we aim to create own style that is neither a typical art gallery nor an antique store. We want to connect the things we find that we love to what you love.

This works, which suddenly appears on the streets of Kyoto, is attracting the attention of shop visitors and passersby. The gently rounded gate seems to invite you into a sacred place beyond. The balance of bamboo's flexibility and strength creates a pleasant sight that welcomes you. YUMEKOUBOU handles works by Tanabe Chikuunsai Ⅳ.
