Wakasugi Seiko

Born in Toyama Prefecture in 1977. After graduating from the Department of Art and Literature at Kinki University in 2000, she furthered her studies at Tajimi City Pottery Design and Technical Center in 2003. Her one year art training in France also seems to have been an opportunity for her to reexamine herself, which has influenced her subsequent creative work. Her works are unglazed white porcelain fired using a casting technique in which the pieces are poured into molds, and are characterized by their beauty and delicacy. Many of the carefully carved shapes have plant motifs, and their soft expressions coexist with a dignified appearance. The purity of unglazed white porcelain is attractive to everyone and has a value that can be accepted by many people regardless of cultural background. She bases her creations on the importance of connections with people and with nature, and seems to have grown by continuing to do so carefully without demanding too much. In recent years, in addition to her personal creative activities, she has also been working as an associate professor at Kyoto City University of Arts, training students who want to pursue ceramic art.
