GROUP SHOW 『Reunion －環－』

YUMEKOUBOU GALLERY is pleased to hold a group exhibition, titled "Reunion-環-", featuring the works of three artists: Naoki Onogawa, Mugi Nakajima, and Yuka Nishihisamatsu.

Naoki Onogawa, who creates " Tree of Cranes” by folding origami papers with prayers, Mugi Nakajima, who creates works without using a brush, making use of the materiality of paint, and Yuka Nishihisamatsu, who creates ceramic sculptures by extracting shapes through her drawings.

While their expressions may seem entirely different at first glance, the concept of "環" (Circle, connection) is inherently present at the core of all three artists' works.

Naoki Onogawa was deeply impacted by his visit to the disaster-stricken areas after the Great East Japan Earthquake. From that experience, he began folding cranes with his own hands, as a symbol of connecting the past, present, and future, and creating works imbued with prayer.

Mugi Nakajima’s main work is created by a device he invented. Acrylic is poured onto a canvas to canvas. Normally, the liquid would flow downward due to gravity, but in his process, the acrylic is caught by the next canvas and reused, continuing to create new layers of colors.

Yuka Nishihisamatsu explores the theme of “Umwelt” (perceptual environment) by abstracting life’s cycles and interconnections through drawing and transforming them into ceramic sculptures. In doing so, she challenges herself to recognize her existence also as part of the world and its ongoing cycle.

このたびYUMEKOUBOU GALLERYでは小野川直樹・中島麦・西久松友花の3名によるGROUP SHOW 『Reunion －環－』を開催いたします。折り鶴に祈りを込めて「鶴の樹」を制作する小野川直樹、絵具の物質性を活かして筆を持たず制作する中島麦、ドローイングにより部分的に抽出した形象を陶立体で制作する西久松友花。

一見全く異なる表現と感じる3名の根底には－環－というコンセプトが内在しています。

小野川直樹は東日本大震災の際に被災地を訪れ強い衝撃を受けました。その経験から過去と今、未来をつなぐシンボルとして折り鶴を自らの指で折り、祈りを込めて制作しています。

中島麦の今展のメイン作品は、彼考案の装置に掛けられたキャンバスに絵具を垂れ流し描かれています。本来なら重力方向に流れ床に落ちる絵具を次のキャンバスで受け止め、再び活かされ描かれていきます。

西久松友花は「環世界」をテーマに生命の循環や関わりをドローイングにより抽出して陶立体へと変化させることで自らが世界を構成する一部であることを認識すべく新たな表現に取り組んでいます。
